Flyback circuit based on LM5180. Converts 36 V into +/-150 V. Transformer is 750311692 (Midcom). Circuit designed with the online tool, but controller keeps blowing up. Using two transformers with primaries in series helped build a working prototype, but reliability still insufficient. Circuit applied to this description. Please suggest a working flyback circuit with 36V in and 150V out. The converter is intended to be used as a kickstart for VICOR powerful converters.
Hello Jordan, I am going to review your design.
Do you have any waveforms to provide of the failure?
Unfortunately not. The converter blew up my absence. Please comment if something can be improved.
Hello Jordan,
The transformer saturation current appears to be at 1A.
That is low given peak primary current limit. I would recommend connecting transformers in parallel, in addition, implementing a DZ clamp on SW to ensure no electrical overstress on switch with the large leakage inductance voltage spike.
Stability also may be a concern with high mag inductance. Parellel primary config wiill be better potentially from stability stand point.
