Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ40Z50,
Hello Team,
Can I exchange a BQ4050 with a BQ40Z50 without needing to make any firmware modification to the gas-gauge functions in the host software?
Regards,
Renan

Hello Renan,
What specifically are you looking for? Most of the normal commands will be the same. Depending on what your MCU firmware does with the gauge it may need some changes to the commands.
Sincerely,

Hello Wyatt,
Thank you for your response.
My Customer firmware was written by a subcontractor several years ago, and they are still trying to track down the source code (without this, they do not know which commands are being used). Is there not some already existing TI documentation that lists the differences (including the command set) between the two chips?
Presumably, there are Application Notes for both variants that list the available commands and the responses from them? Can we share it with them?
Regards,
Renan
Hello Renan,
Ahh I see, I think that would be the most helpful to see if they do access DF, because the dataflash will definitely have different addressing.
We don't have a list of all the command differences broken down between all the gauges that I am aware of, as I mentioned most of the normal commands should be the same and can be manually checked quickly. If they access data flash then it will be different.
I put this together in a few minutes from the TRMs, note there may be some additional commands if they are using a newer firmware version of the BQ40Z50.
