TPS536C7: Inquiries about Multiphase PWM Controller

Part Number: TPS536C7
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS53676,

Hi, TI expert

A customer has an inquiry about Multiphase PWM Controller.

- Customer: FURIOSA AI (https://www.furiosa.ai/)

- Application: AI (GPU card), refer to the link below

Customers are already using MPS (MP2888A, MP2884A). (See attached Datasheet)

MP2888A.pdf

MP2884A.pdf

Customer want to use it as a replacement for TI's Multiphase PWM Controller. (TI P/N below)

- 100W class model: TPS53676 + CSD95490

- 300W class model: TPS536C7 + CSD95490

Q1) Is it possible to use the above-mentioned TPS53676 / TPS536C7 as an alternative?

Q2) Or is there any device you can recommend?

Q3) A customer wants to know the introduction of TI's Multiphase PWM Controller, is there any introduction material?

Please Check. Thank you.

  • Hi Grady,

Can you provide information on which processor the customer wants to power?

    Thanks,

    Nastasha

  • Thank you for answer.

I will ask again after confirming the information of AI Processor through the customer.

  • Hi, TI expert

I'm Won Kim from Furiosa AI and have asked few questions regarding TPS53676 through local distributor.

I'm not sure it was answered yet. So I'm asking again with correction.

    1. I'm not using MPS part at this point but power module from other vendor.

    2. I'm looking for multi-phase buck controller solution for my 100W peak 75W TDP system and reviewing TPS53676

    3. We have our own AI processor that is similar power requirement to NVIDIA's T4 GPU which is also 75W TDP.

    here is my questionnaire

Q1. TPS53676 application suggests 150nH/80A (Isat) inductor on EVM.

I'm going to allocate 5 phase for GPU core and 2 phase for other part of SoC.

GPU peak current is briefly 110A (@0.9V) so I think 30A per phase should be enough. Am I right?

In this case, can I use 220nH/55A (Isat) inductor (PA5449.221)?

Q2. Is CSD95490 right product for power stage? Or too much?

  • Hi Kim,

Just want to make sure I understand your condition.

For GPU core has peak current 110A(VGPU_core=0.9V), and you are planning with 5 phase design for this rail, is that correct? What is the TDC current spec for this rail? Thanks.
