BQ2980: circuit wake up while insertion of battery

Part Number: BQ2980

As mentioned our product uses removable cylindrical batteries and the PCM will be mounted on the carrier board PCB. In this case, we need the system to wake up immediately after inserting the battery. Couldn't find any IC part number mentioned in the datasheet with UV_SHUT disabled. Is it possible to disable the shutdown feature by any method? A default pull down on the pack+ pin is enough for this? Please suggest.

If not possible could you please suggest a solution/ alternate part that can meet our scenario?

  • Hi Elsa,

The BQ2980 wakes from a voltage on the PACK pin.  If you have a light load sufficient capacitance across the FETs may pull up PACK+ to wake the part on cell attachment, but much load from the system would hold down the PACK pin and the part would not wake.  A voltage on PACK+ such as from the charger would be needed to wake the part.

With the cell attached and BQ2980 awake the FETs would be on, if the battery were inserted into the system it should power the system unless inrush current produced a fault.
