TPSM82822A: Emissions figure

Part Number: TPSM82822A
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPSM82822

Hello,

A customer of mine is interested in the TPSM82822ASILR, which is forced PWM adjustable device.

They noticed that the ripple is a bit lower than the TPSM82822SILR, which is something they would like to have in our design and are afraid it will radiate more emissions.

Do we have TPSM82822ASILR radiate emissions figure? or is it the same as TPSM82822SILR (since it was tested @ 1.8A)

Are there other parameters they should take into consideration?

  • Hi Victor,

TPSM82822A is the forced PWM version of TPSM82822. At 1.8A, performance of both devices should be the same as both will be in PWM. The emissions spectrum for both devices at 1.8A will be the same.

When it comes to output voltage ripple, the main factors influencing ripple are inductor current ripple, switching frequency, output capacitance along with it's ESL and ESR. Since both versions have the same inductor and switching frequency, I expect them to have the same ripple. The slight difference in the datasheet ripple values between the versions could have been caused by using different output caps during the measurements. I shall feedback this info to the product line.

In case ripple is of concern to the customer, I recommend choosing low ESL & ESR output caps and placing them in parallel as this can reduce the effective ESL and ESR. The device allows up to 47uF output capacitor. So 4*10uF will probably be a good choice here.

    Best regards,

    Varun
