Hello,
The pinstrap values for several functions of TPS542A50 are different between the datasheet (rev Dec 2021), Webench, and the Design Calculator. For instance, datasheet table 7-1 (R_FSEL) shows 7.5 kohm = 400 kHz, but Webench and the Design Calculator show 10 kohm = 400 kHz. Datasheet table 7-5 shows R_SS/PFM of 47.5 kohm = PFM disable / 2.0 SS CLK / 12.6 ms HICCUP, but Webench and the Design Calculator show 44.2 kohm.
Is it correct to assume that the datasheet is the authoritative source?
I didn't notice the discrepancy, and now I have boards in assembly with R_FSEL = 10 kohm. Will the regulator switch at some value between 400 and 600 kHz, or will it sample that resistor at power-up and pick from one of the discrete switching frequencies listed?
Thanks,
Jonathan
Hi Jonathan,
Yes, the values in the datasheet are what is to be followed. WEBENCH is also using the correct pin strap resistor values. Attached is the updated excel calculator tool. The 10kOhm resistor value should result a 400kHz fsw. Recommended for the resistor tolerance to be low to maintain closer to the updated 7.5kOhm.

Alejandro

Thanks Alejandro. I confirmed that Webench gives the correct values now - I have a saved design from Jul 13 2021 showing the old pin strap values, so it must have been resolved between then and now. Appreciate the quick reply and updated Excel calculator tool.
