Hello there,

We are currently designing a device around the BQ40Z50 IC. I have noticed that there are different versions of it available for purchase, all marked as ACTIVE. I have the following questions:

Which exact IC ID version should be used for the in development projects? Is it BQ40Z50 or BQ40Z50-R2, or a different one?
What exact IC is on the bq40z50EVM-561?
Are there any hardware related differences between the IC's, or is it only firmware?

I would appreciate all help!

Hello Lukasz,

The difference is only in firmware. We recommend using the latest for new designs.https://www.ti.com/tool/BQ40Z50-R3-DEVICE-FW

If using the older firmware, then refer the change list and ensure that the items in the change list do not impact your design.

Hi Shirish,

Thank you for the answer. So, do I understand correctly that the difference is only in the preloaded firmware (either R2 for BQ40Z50-R2 and R0 for BQ40Z50)? Also, does it mean I can manually flash new firmware to any BQ40Z50?

Yes, you can manually flash new firmware(R3) to any bq40z50.
