I'm using BQ34Z110EVM with EV2300 and everything seems to work except for the bqChem tab in the BQ34Z110EVSW application.
No chemistry list is shown.
I'd like to try a clean reinstall of Q34Z110EVSW with the most current Chemistry.
I don't see the software downloads.
Can you send to me?
Thank you.
EVSW is at https://www.ti.com/lit/zip/sluc407
The latest chemistry is at www.ti.com/.../GASGAUGECHEM-SW
Thank you.
The new installs were successful.
Communication OK after launching EVSW, however after selecting bqCHEM there was about a 60s delay before this error message.
Syntax error in Chem.ini
Cell: Obsolete (Do no use)
Failed to add to chemistry selection table
I opened Chem.ini in notepad fine.
Does the chemistry selection table need to be added if I can find the ChemID from the Chem.ini file?
In it I can see the ChemID that might be best.
[4134_Chem]
ChemID=0803
Description=Lead Acid
NumKnownCells=3
HF_Data=1
2OCV_Data=1
1=Enersys: Cyclone_D (2500mAh)
2=Panasonic: LC_P1220P
3=PowerSonic: PS-12260_F2 (26Ah)
I would choose PowerSonic: PS-12260_F2 (26Ah).
Perhaps you can suggest a better one?
My 24V battery is two AGM 12V 35Ah in series.
I don't know what's important in making a selection. NumKnownCells or Capacity?
The manufacturer, model and capacity should match.
Not sure what the chem.ini error is but I would recommend that you not proceed until that error is resolved. You could try reinstalling the chemistry updater. If you continue to see the error, then DM me the chem.ini file
Reinstalling a second download of the chem updater did not resolve.
Before bqEVSW opens I get this pop-up warning that first appeared after installing the 969 chem update.
The evaluation software is either an illegal/unauthorized copy or has not been installed properly.
Please reinstall the software to ensure that other EV software will continue to work.
I'm running on Vista 32bit. Installation with admin privilege.
I verified the updated folder timestamp for
C:ProgramFiles>TexasInstruments>bq Evaluation Software>Plugins>Chemistry
Since there is no chemistry match with the update, is there an older update I can try just to give me an error free use of bqEVSW?
How to proceed with no chemistry match?
Target battery is 24V lead acid, 2 x 12V in series, 35Ah.
Try to run bqEVSW as administrator. Right click the shortcut and choose "Run as"
Running as administrator I'n now getting
Syntax error in Chem.ini
Cell: Obsolete (Do no use)
Failed to add to chemistry selection table
WIth a normal opening I get this bqChem_Indy pop-up error.
Can't find Chem.ini configuration file.
Chemistry selection list not available.
The file is located here.
C:\Program Files\Texas Instruments\bq Evaluation Software\Plugins\Chemistry

Hello Rom,
Shirish is currently out of office and is the most familiar with the bqEVSW, there may be a delay in response until he is back.
Sincerely,
Wyatt Keller
Hello Rom,
I tried it and was able to reproduce the problem. I will need to see what is causing it. It may take some time to resolve.
Hello Rom,
It looks like bqChem should not have been included in bqEVSW for bq34z100. There is an incompatibility.
I would recommend using the bq34z100 if it meets your requirements.
Hello Shirish,
I'm using bqEVSW 0.9.90 for bq34z110.
The title in the app screen reads:
Texas Instruments bq Gas Gauge Evaluation Software - bq34z110 v0.04 - [SBS Data]
If bqChem in bqEVSW isn't supported for bq34z110 now, then how about using BQSTUDIO with EV2400?
The reason I'm using bqEVSW is because I don't have EV2400 and can't get my EV2300 to communicate with BQSTUDIO.
I'll purchase EV2400 if there is no other way.
I need the CEDV feature in bq34z110.
Thanks,
Rom
Hello Rom,
bqStudio supports the bq34110. I don't think it supports bq34z110. Can you use bq34110 or bq34z100?
Hello Shirish,
My application is light vehicle use in harsh climates.
That is, deep cyclic discharging with considerable temp swings.
The CEDV feature in BQ34Z110 is best for this, right?
Hello Shirish,
Yes, but it's for rarely discharged applications.
My application is light vehicles with deep, daily discharge cycles..
Hello Shirish,
The GPCCHEM tool identified ChemID 809 with a close match.
Can the parameters for this ChemID be directly added into the bqEVSW DF screen as a bqChem work around?
Thanks,
Rom
Hello Rom,
At this time bqEVSW does not support chemistry programming. Chemistry data is not available on DF screen, so it is not possible to program it using the DF screen. I don't think there is a work around.
Hello Shirish,
Did you confirm whether BQSTUDIO supports BQ34Z110?
If there is currently no way, when can I expect the issue to be resolved?
Hello Rom,
bqStudio does not support bq34z110. Since this is an old product, i do not think there will be an update of bqEVSW or bqStudio. I would expect that there should be a version of bqEVSW that supports bq34z110 chemistry programming. I will try to search for it.
Hello Shirish,
Yes, the latest version that supports bq34z110 would be helpful.
Thank You,
Rom
Hello Rom,
Can you the share the current version of bqEVSW that you are using? Does it support products other than bq34z110?
Hello Shirish,
I'm using bqEVSW 0.9.90 for bq34z110.
The title of the screen reads: Texas Instruments bq Gas Gauge Evaluation Software - bq34z110 v0.04 - [SBS Data]
I have not used it with any other product.
Hello Rom,
There is no record of working bqEVSW for this firmware. I may be able to help you one on one. I will send you a direct message.
Hello Shirish,
The bq34z110EVM users guide dated October 2012 (SLUUA15) pg 19 figure 14 shows bqChem Screen with bq34z110 v0.06 .
I don't understand why my firmware version is older?
How do I update to bq34z110 v0.06 or later?
I noticed that too and tried to track it down but there are too many inconsistencies associated with that. For example the device number in the screenshot is 100 instead of 110, that indicates that it may have been a test setup. There was no release of that firmware. See the direct message i sent.
It shows 110 in the bqEVSW title bar.
I'll check my email for your direct message.
The device number that is read from the connected device is shown at the bottom of SBS screen. This is figure 9.
Just to let you know, i tried multiple versions of bqEVSW that support different versions of firmware and all of them had issues with writing chemistry. So if there is a working version, it is not in the standard repository where all bqEVSW is stored.
Do you have the 100 device connected? My bqEVSW DataRam Screen shows Device:110, ver. 0.04
I see, you are saying the 110 users guide screen shots used a 100 device, right?
So there is no record of bqChem working for 110?
I was mistaken to think bq34z110 has the CEDV feature.
I asked for both Impedance Tracking and CEDV feaures when using the quick search product selector and assumed both bq34110 and bq34z110 products listed had both features.
Now I understand now that bq34z110 does not have the CEDV feature.
However, bq34z110 is the only other product listed for lead acid and not rarely discharged using quick search.
If bq34z110 is no longer supported for gauging development of Lead Acid batteries, then is bq34z100-G1 the newer replacement?
The product selector doesn't list BQ34Z100-G1 for PbA but the data sheet features list indicates that it supports PbA chemistry.
If both support PbA, is there any reason to choose bq34z110 over bq34z100-g1?
Maybe this will provide some insight as to why you aren't finding a bqChemID solution for bq34z110.
bq34z100 is an impedance track solution that works for Lead acid. It is also impedance track based.
If both support lead acid, is there any reason to choose bq34z110 over bq34z100-g1?
Hello Rom,
Both are targeted to different applications. Feature comparison
Hello Shirish,
It appears from the feature lists that BQ34Z100-G1 would make BQ34Z110 obsolete for new designs, but that is not said.
Also, the product selector continues to recommend BQ34Z110 for Lead Acid, and excludes BQ34Z100-G1.
You have been unable to provide a software solution required to support BQ34Z110, so the issue is not resolved.
If a suggested resolution is to abandon BQ34Z110 in favor of BQ34Z100-G1 , I'd like to know the pros and cons.
Hello Rom,
Is your battery capacity more than 65Ah or are the charge / discharge currents more than 32A?
The standard configuration of bq34z100-G1 does not support the discharge current whereas the standard configuration of bq34z110 supports it.
It appears both require the same current and capacity scaling.
The provisions for scaling are given in the z110 datasheet and thus probably considered a standard configuration.
SLUA760 explains how to implement it in the Z100-G1, thus probably considered non-standard.
Good news Shirish.
I found this version I last used in 2014 and it works.
This version successfully wrote the ChemID data to the bq34z110.
I can send you the file if you like.
It was installed on my Vista 32bit laptop in 2014.
Unfortunately, I don't have the installation zip.
I'm looking forward to proceeding with the bq34z110.
Please let me know if I should be aware of anything when using this old version.
Thank you for all your help.
Hello Rom,
That old version is good to use. Will appreciate if you can zip the install folder and send it to me.
