TPS6594-Q1: how to realize cold start

Hi Expert,

Our customer use TPS6594-Q1 power DRA821.

They want to realize cold start function via nRSTOUT pin. During the cold start, all TPS6594-Q1 remains unchanged, meaning the output all on. DRA821 config TPS65941 via i2c to pull low nRSTOUT to reset DRA821. But the nRSTOUT will automatically pull high after certain time. There is no other external SoC will pull nRSTOUT high since it is not running. nRSTOUT is required to pull high automatically. This function is similar with ESM_ERROR but they don't want to use it since it will leave some fault counter. So is it possible to achieve this function? Thanks.

Hi Elec,

Activating a warm reset through ESM_ERROR or WD_ERROR is the best way to do this as rails will remain active if they are already active. The fault counter can be reset using the RECOV_CNT_CLR bit.

I suppose these two function is used for detecting error during normal working. Now the customer wants to initiate a warm reset. How to realize this?

Hi Elec,

Besides the 2 ways above, the NVM would need to be reprogrammed in order to include a sequence that does this.

The customer could have the processor create a fake error by either not servicing the watchdog or triggering an ESM error through GPIO.

Hi Elec,

It is possible to do this. customer would need TPS6594EVM or MSP432 launchpad + TPS6594 BOOSTXL to reprogram devices.

Hi Daniel,

I mean the NVM changes for mass production. Is it possible that we change TPS65941515-Q1's NVM in RTM stage? Our customer want to change the NVM in production. So from your side, is there easy way to realize? Thanks.

Hi Elec,

The best way to realize this would be to capture the I2C commands made by the GUI+MSP432 while reprogramming the device and then repeat these commands to reprogram all devices at production.
