BQ24600: CHARGING THROUGH PROTECTIVE DIODES

Part Number: BQ24600
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ40Z80

I HAVE 6 PANASONIC NCR18650B Li Ion CELLS  IN SERIES WITH A bq40z80 FUEL GAUGE. MY APPLICATION REQUIRES THAT THE CHARGER CONNECTOR BE DEAD WHEN IN THE HAZARDOUS LOCATION. ACTIVE CIRCUIT MEANS ARE NOT ACCEPTABLE, I HAVE THREE SCHOTTKY DIODES IN SERIES TO PROVIDE REDUNDANT PROTECTION. MY CHARGER THE bq24600 WITH THE TOP RESISTOR SPLIT BETWEEN THE CHARGER AND VBATT+. I CANNOT GET THE CHARGER TO SUPPLY CURRENT. WHEN WORKING, I WILL BE CHARGING AT APPROX C/4 OR JUST UNDER 1  AMP THE GREEN LED (PG-) IS ON AND THE RED LED (STAT) FLASHES.

USING A CI/CC POWER SUPPLY WITH KELVIN CONNECTION, THE bq40z80 WORKS FINE.TERMINATING CHARGE CYCLES.

CAN YOU SUGGEST A CHARGER CHIP THAT CAN TOLERATE THE SERIES DIODES IN THE CURRENT LINE. HX1030-SCH Battery Mgr .pdf

  • Hi,

STAT LED blinking at 0.5Hz indicates that charge suspend, timer fault, input overvoltage, or battery absent.

I have some comments and question regarding the schematic.

What is the off sheet connector E1? Is this connected to some other parts?

What is E2, E3, E4? Are these connected to battery?

    What is the inductor value?

What is remote VFB? Is this connected to the positive terminal of the battery pack?

    R11 should be removed.

    C4 should be removed.

If your goal is to charge at 1A, you should change the resistor divider value at ISET (R3, R4).

    Regards.
