TPS7A24: Missing Information in LDO TPS7A2401DBVR Datasheet

Part Number: TPS7A24
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS7A25

Hi Team,

Greetings of the day!

Could you please help us in getting the below requested information as the same is missing in the datasheet available on the website?

1) Peak Output Current.

2) Output Voltage Temperature Coefficient (Output Voltage vs. Temperature).

3) Line Transient Response Characteristics.

4) Load Transient Response Characteristics.

5) Can we connect a Capacitor between FB Pin and GND Pin to improve the output Noise Performance as shown in below figure?.

  • Hi Pankaj,

When you mean Peak output current, are you referring to the recommended Iout, or current limit?

For Iout, this is listed in ROC table:

Current limit is listed in EC table as well:

For Output Voltage Temperature Coefficient (Output Voltage vs. Temperature), we have listed in our EC table the Vout accuracy over temperature and we also have Line and Load regulation plots that show across temperature:

For Load and Line Transients, I agree, these are missing, I will have to look for such data, although, are there any specific conditions you are interested in? I might be able to go in the Lab and provide such data.

Lastly, it is recommended to place the capacitor across R1. We call this Feed forward capacitor (Cff): Pros and Cons of Using a Feedforward Capacitor with a Low-Dropout Regulator (ti.com)

Therefore, yes you can apply a Cff to improve some of the transient and noise performance of the TPS7A24, rather than putting it from FB to GND, this will make the LDO become unstable.

  • Thank you so much Edgar for answering the queries.

For Load and Line Transients, I agree, these are missing, I will have to look for such data, although, are there any specific conditions you are interested in? I might be able to go in the Lab and provide such data. - You can share the test data whatever you have.

    Pankaj

  • One more question, if we add the Feed-Forward Capacitor as suggested, how this would impact the response time of the LDO?

  • Hi Pankaj,

    You are welcome!

Let me see if I can find specific data for the TPS7A24. If it helps, you can look in the TPS7A25/6 data sheets. These devices are very similar therefore the Load and Line transient performance should be very close to each other.

In regards using the Cff, from the previously shared app note, you can see that it will add a pole and a zero to help with the stability of the loop, in addition the zero will tend to improve the bandwidth of the LDO, therefore you also get the improved load transient performance.

Since this LDO does not have a PG function, therefore the cons are minimum.

If by response time you mean how it will impact the startup of the device, this somewhat depends on the value for R1 and Cff, but overall, it should not make that much of an impact.

  • Hi Edgar,

Thank you so much for answering all the queries. It helped a lot. I really appreciate the help and support got from you.

  • Hi Pankaj,

I just confirmed and you can use TPS7A25 Load and Line transient plots for TPS7A24.

  • Thank you so much, Edgar.
