BQ25180EVM: TI-CHARGER-GUI Connection Issues

Part Number: BQ25180EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ27Z746, BQ25180, USB2ANY, EV2400, TI-CHARGER-GUI

Hello,

We recently purchased the BQ25180 and BQ27Z746 and mounted them on our boards according to your recommended circuits in the EVM module user guides. We are experiencing issues with both of the devices in terms of default functionality, so we decided to purchase each EVM module and their associated communication devices such as the EV2400 for the BQ27Z746 and the USB2ANY for the BQ25180. I will focus this issue just on the BQ25180EVM.

The TI-CHARGER-GUI is web based so I launched the software and downloaded and installed the required browser plug in and windows downloads.

I plugged in the USB2ANY to my computers USB and it immediately started downloading the required drivers and appeared as a peripheral in my computer settings.

I also downloaded the additional USB2ANY Explorer software after the initial connection issues inside of TI-CHARGER-GUI.

I applied power with a battery (3.85V) to VBAT and 5.1V to the VIN pin with a lab bench power supply.

The I2C pullup jumper came with the BQ25180EVM unpopulated and when measuring the SDA and SCL lines with the USB2ANY connected there was 0V. I added a jumper to this J1 header and the I2C pins were now pulled up to 3.3V with the onboard 3.3V LDO (VIO) sourced from VIN.

I tried connecting to the assembly in many combinations all with power applied (VBAT and VIN with I2C pulled up, VBAT and VIN with no I2C pull up, VBAT only with no I2C pull up, VBAT with I2C pull up).

Each connection attempt continues to show a broken link in the bottom left corner of TI-CHARGER-GUI along with "Hardware not connected. Failed to connect"

The top left corner also shows the status as RED and "Not Connected".

Clicking the broken link or the up arrow next to it then "ti_transport_usb" has the same result.

The prompt in the README.md file says that if power is not applied to both VIN and VBAT then the GUI will not see the EVM and will need to be restarted after power has been applied.

I applied power, refreshed the web TI-CHARGER-GUI and started again. same result.

The BQ25180EVM has the LED on, 3.3V on VIO, VSYS is 4.5V since VIN=5.1V, SDA and SCL are pulled up to 3.3V, TS/MR is at 0.359V, !INT is at 3.3V.

All Jumpers (J1, J5, J7, and J10) are connected.

USB2ANY green light is ON and the computer sees it.

I have not pressed the reset button on the USB2ANY or held the TSMR pin for longer than 500ms on the BQ25180EVM.

The BQ25180EVM user guide does not say anything about pressing any hardware buttons to get it started.

Please provide any assistance that you can.

Thanks,

Austin
