BQ25180: Charging current setting

Part Number: BQ25180

Hi TI Teams,

Our customer feedback that when they setting the fast charge current to 500mA, but the measured output current in the constant voltage charging process is only 218mA. At this time, they have disable the wachdog.

The register setting is as below:

Addr Value
0x03 0x46
0x04 0x4D
0x05 0x23
0x06 0x56
0x07 0x07
0x08 0x4D
0x0A 0x40
0x0B 0x0F

Other question is about the TS_EN. We disabled all the registers of the temperature setting, do we need to disable the TS_EN as well, otherwise the BQ25180 will not be able to work normally? That is, if we disabled all the registers of the temperature setting, but the TS_EN is enable, does the BQ25180 will stop charging when it fails to detect the temperature-related configuration?

Thanks,

Kind Regards

  • Hi Lumina,

Our customer feedback that when they setting the fast charge current to 500mA, but the measured output current in the constant voltage charging process is only 218mA. At this time, they have disable the wachdog.

As the device enters constant voltage mode, the charge current will taper until it reaches termination mode. This is expected behavior.

Can you elaborate more on disabling register of the temperature setting? Within the 0xB register, it looks like the only thing disabled is TS_COOL and TS_WARM. If they are looking to disable the temperature completely, they can use a 10k resistor on the TS/MR pin or set TS_EN in 0x7 to 0b0, which it looks like it already is.

That is, if we disabled all the registers of the temperature setting, but the TS_EN is enable, does the BQ25180 will stop charging when it fails to detect the temperature-related configuration?

Yes, this would be correct. If TS_EN is set for 1b1 (TS auto function enabled), if the temperature enters hot or cold, the device will stop charging based on the providing settings.

Let me know if there are fuirther questions.

    Best Regards,

    Anthony Pham
