HD3SS3220: Design check

Part Number: HD3SS3220

Hello Team,

We are using HD3SS3220 Port controller in our design. Our application we are using USB3.1 DFP mode Configuration (USB TYPE C HOST). We are using GPIO mode for setting 900mA profile.

Kindly find the attached Schematic for review.

Technical queries :

1) Do we need to add bulk CAP like 120uF at VDD5 (Pin Number 30) ?

2) AC CAP required on RX pin ?

Please review design and let us know if any modification is required

  • 1: you need Vbus switch to supply 5v vbus which is controlled by ID pin for DFP.

2: you need AC cap 100 nf on TX pin, 2330 nf for RX pin.

3: don't  suggest to  use Vbus as power supply for HD3SS3220 for DFP.

    regards

  • Hi Brian Zhou,

Thanks for your inputs. Kindly find the attachment for the updated schematics. Please consider the same for the review and let us know your thoughts.

Also supply for the port controller VCC_5V0_USB1 is generated from the on board power regulator and not from the USB Type C Connector.

We have not used the switch to supply 5V VBUS for the DFP.  By default we are providing the 5V supply for the DFP. Will it create any issues?

Also waiting for your inputs regarding the AC Capacitor values for both TX and RX lines.

Thanks in an advance.HUB CONTROLLER SCHEMATIC REVIEW.pdf

  • AC cap on TX should be around 0.1 uf , 0.33uf on RX.

How do you control 5v in DFP? 5v should be on after UFP device detected.

  • Hello Brian Zhou,

Thank you for response. Kindly find our response below

AC cap on TX should be around 0.1 uf , 0.33uf on RX.

--> As per processor guideline we consider USB3.1 AC Coupling Range 75nF to 265nF.if require we can change while Testing.

How do you control 5v in DFP? 5v should be on after UFP device detected.

--> as per your suggestion we added one load switch for control DFP 5V supply. Please refer updated Schematic and let me know if any modification is required.

  • 1: RX CAP should be 0.33uf , 75-265nf is for total TX/RX channel.

2; Vbus switch should be low enable.

    3: Vbus_dect should connect to VCC_USB1_host.

    Regards

    Brian

  • Dear Brian Zhou,

Thank you for feedback. Kindly find inline response.
