BQ28Z610EVM-532: Questions about battery charger and fuel gauge setup

Part Number: BQ28Z610EVM-532
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ40Z50, BQ24074, BQ34Z100-R2

Sanity Check questions:

  1. Can you confirm that the BQ40Z50 is designed to be used as a battery management system and not a charger, and the BQ24074 is designed to be used as a battery charger?
  2. Can you confirm that the BQ40Z50 can monitor the battery pack's voltage, current, state of charge (SOC), and state of health (SOH) through the 1N, 1P, 2P, 3P, 4P connections, and control the charging and discharging process through the CHG and DSG FETs?
  3. Can you confirm that the BQ40Z50 does not measure charging current directly, but rather estimate it based on the voltage and current measurements taken on the 1N, 1P, 2P, 3P, 4P connections?
  4. Can you confirm that the BQ24074 can be connected to the battery pack to charge it using a constant current/constant voltage (CC/CV) charging algorithm, and provide a charging status output?
  5. Can you confirm that the microcontroller can be used to control the charging process by reading the battery status from the BQ40Z50 and the charging status from the BQ24074, and sending the appropriate signals to the CHG and DSG pins on the BQ40Z50?
  6. Are there any risks or limitations that we should be aware of when using the BQ40Z50 and BQ24074 in this configuration?
Reallllly extra questions, if you have time. Any and all input is appreciated. Full responses are definitely not expected. But we are between a rock and a hard place and could use all the help we can get...
  1. Can you provide an example of a typical circuit layout and schematic capture for connecting the BQ24074 and BQ40Z50?
  2. Can you confirm the correct connections for the BQ24074's input and output pins, including the battery terminals, solar panel input, and USB input in the circuit layout?
  3. Can you confirm the correct connections for the BQ40Z50's input and output pins, including the 1N, 1P, 2P, 3P, 4P connections, the CHG and DSG pins, and the PACK+ and PACK- lines in the circuit layout?
  4. Can you provide guidance on the correct connections for the microcontroller, including the I2C lines, in the circuit layout?
  5. Are there any specific components or circuits that should be included in the circuit layout to ensure correct and safe operation of the BQ24074, BQ40Z50, and the rest of the prototype?
  6. Are there any specific precautions or recommendations that we should be aware of when designing the circuit layout and capturing the schematic for this application?
