TPS65987D: Soft or Hard Reset Trigger When Cable is Unplugged

Part Number: TPS65987D

Hello TI team,

Is there a way to trigger a Hard or Soft reset of the device when a cable UNPLUG event is detected (i know that only cable plug event is present, i basically mean when the cable is unplugged)?

i couldn't manage to find a way to do this.

  • Hi Panos,

    Thank you for reaching out!

There isn't a set way to do this but I have a suggestion that may work. You may try connecting the HRESET pin (44) on the TPS65987D to a GPIO pin and configuring the GPIO events. Below are screenshots from the data sheet as well as the technical reference manual that may be helpful. Please let me know if you have additional questions.

  • Hi Aya,

    Thanks for your reply.

I do have an extra question.

In case of using the port 0 plug event and mapping it as an inverted event, when the cable is detached will the output of the IO be high only for some time and then goes low again, or it will remain high?

if i pull-up the HRESET in this way, when the TPS65987D resets what will be the state of the IO mentioned above? will the TPS65987D continuously reset, until a cable is plugged?

  • Hi Panos,

Once again, we don't have a set way to do this. Therefore, I am not sure what the outcome would be. Have you tried to accomplish this? Please let me know and I can look into it on my end too.

    Best Regards,

    Aya

  • Hello Aya,

I did manage to route the event to IO12 and have the expected behavior.

However i am facing another issue. I am using the "port 0 plug event" in another IO as well, IO15. What i see is that the event is only triggered in the IO that has lower number.

To be more specific i am using the "port 0 plug event" in IO12 with inverted configuration and the same event on IO15 with direct-mapped configuration. The event is however only triggered for IO12. For IO15 nothing is changing. When IO12 is disabled, IO15 is triggered as expected.

  • Hi Panos,

This is normal behavior of the device. It seems this occurs because you are using the same GPIO Event on multiple GPIOs. I would suggest maybe using an inverter at the output to give you the same result.

  • Hello,
i have managed to build a circuit for this purpose, but i would like to know the timing needed for the HRESET pin, so that the controller resets.

How long does the HRESET needs to be high for the controller to reset? would 200usec be sufficient?

  • Hi Panos,

I am glad to hear that!

I am going to replicate and let you know the timing needed for the HRESET pin by the end of the week.

    Aya

  • Hi Panos,

I checked with some system engineers on our team. There should not be a deglitch on that pin. I believe 200 useconds will be good. Please let me know if you run into any issues with this.

    Best Regards,
