LMG3522R030: Eon & Eoff

Part Number: LMG3522R030
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LMG3422R030, ,

Hi Team,

The E2E thread below refers to Eon & Eoff plots in the LMG3422R030 datasheet for LMG3522R030 as these numbers will be similar between the two devices.

e2e.ti.com/.../need-additional-information-regarding-lmg3526r030

Our customer has some inquiries below.

The Energy graphs provided are with respect to the current only but about the Vds dependency?

1. Eoff is not properly visible in the recommended graph.
2. RθJC for LMG3522R030-Q1 is 0.13 °C/W. Please confirm this value given in the datasheet.
3. RθJC for LMG3522R030 (non-automotive) is 0.28 °C/W. Please confirm this value given in the datasheet.

Regards,

Danilo

  • Hey Danilo & Anita,

    1. Eoff is near zero in the graph, this is because our overlap losses on turn-off are extremely small (negligible) due to our ability to turn off quickly. The energy that is used to charge the Coss cap on turn-off is accounted for in turn-on energy because that is when that energy is discharged from the device.

    2. LMG3522R030-Q1 is in preview currently so the numbers in the data sheet are subject to change. This is one of the numbers that is most likely to change. 0.28 °C/W will be a better number to use until we publish the final data sheet for LMG3522R030-Q1.

    3. LMG3522R030 is fully released and in production so the numbers in the data sheet are final. RθJC for LMG3522R030 is 0.28 °C/W.

  • Hello,

    1. Eoss mentioned in LMG3522R030-Q1 datasheet is 24.4uJ max. Eoss is the part of the Turn-on energy loss (Eon), but what about the Evi energy losses due to turn-on current and voltage overlap. As Eon= Evi+Eoss.

    2. Also Energy loss graph shown in LMG3422R030 datasheets shows that Eon is in the range of 65uJ to 110uJ depending only on inductive current only, there is no Vds dependency given. Eoff is given nearly to zero.

    3. It would be good if you can provide the required relevant details.

  • Hi Anita,

1.a LMG3522R030-Q1 is in preview currently so the numbers in the data sheet are subject to change. For the Eoss please refer to the LMG3522R030 datasheet. This data sheet doesn't directly include the Eoss, please use the Co(er) provided in the data sheet to calculate it.

1.b Turn-on overlap loss (Evi) is included in the Eon/Eoff plot from the LMG3422R030 datasheet. Turn-on overlap loss is found in the curve of Turn-on losses, this curve also includes Eoss.

    2. Yes, the graph provided is for Vds = 400V with Ids varied from 0-30A. Eoff is near to zero because our device's turn-off overlap loss is near to zero due to our fast turn-off times.

    Best,
