UCD3138A: need assistance to move code from UCD3138A (target) to UCD3138 (new target).

Due to acquisition problems, my company has made a production run of a power board using UCD3138RHAR in place of the previous UCD318Axxxx. This was on the advice/suggestion of TI. Although they are pin compatible, they are NOT code compatible.

I've begun trying to take the same project and build for new target. Build configuration is very similar (or is now after manipulation). I can build the code. I can program the output .x0 file using the UCD31xxx Device GUI. However, currently the code will NOT run. Simply doesn't respond to the PMBUS DEVICE_ID query and then reverts to BOOT mode (ROM Mode ID only). I can zip up the entire project at this point if someone can look through all the settings and/or initialization code and spot what is causing the UCD3138 to NOT run at all.

Please advise.

Hi Havener,

It seems that your program code lead some failure and make the chip back to ROM mode. You can compare the current code with the previously normal code or UCD example code.

That was my next step; was hoping to avoid it. I'll have to re-download (or find) the base code targetted to UCD3138 then do a side-by-side comparison to my project. Ugh and double ugh.

Any idea who our FAE might be? Or way to find out? Older project with locked code, so haven't reached out in close to 18 months.

So a call into our local representative has led me to believe we don't actually have an FAE. So, I'm back to trying to get some help and resolution via the E2E forum.

Thank you for choose UCD3138.

There are no proper way on E2E to check customer's code. We usually achieve customers' files and support customers via FAE.

Which would be great....if we had an FAE. Making phone calls has resulted in being told our area (Indianapolis, IN, USA) doesn't currently have an FAE.

Update: No real help from Texas Instruments (disappointing). Went back and downloaded the UCD3138 (base part) training projects. Then did a project wide difference between them and the PFC project that was my base for the UCD3138A. Spotted 2 or 3 differences (not documented in the migration from UCD3138 to UCD3138A documentation). Once those changes were in place, the only significant code change that was required was the removal of the IPK (peak current) code block. Something doesn't quite work the same between the 2 processors.

As time permits, I'll try to do a full report and list out the changes. Hopefully someone else down the line may find it useful.
