TPS2051B: TPS2051BDBVR

Part Number: TPS2051B
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM74700-Q1, TPS2051, TPS2553

I need the following protection for a simple 5V input circuit
1: Over voltage
2: Over current
3: Short circuit
4: reverse polarity
5: reverse current
It clearly not meeting by these components shown in below circuit.

The input supply will be 5V and current will no more than 500mA. I need cost effective solution and low component count.

  • HI Ali,

Due to the 'E2E maintenance', we will reply to you next week.

  • Hi Ali,

Sorry, our device TPS2051B can not support your requirements, I also check other device, sorry, I can't find a power switch can support all of your requirements.

I used the LM74700-Q1 to have a reverse polarity protection, but I don't know a device can support all of your requirements.

  • Hi
Thanks for your reply. I edited my requirement list and put in priority order. Can you check if there is a device that can support these functions.
1: Over voltage or i can use TVS diode. The input is 5V phone adapter
2: Over current or Short circuit or current limiting feature
    3: reverse current
4: reverse polarity not necessarily required but good to have it

I used TPS2051 for current protection but i think it is not enough considering other protections.
    Thanks

  • HI Ali,

Our power switch don' have the input OVP function, and for the 2nd and 3rd point, you can consider the TPS2553, thank you.

  • Hi

    Thanks for this valuable information.
    I will consider TPS2553.
Before we close this thread. I just want to make sure it is the right choice.
1: I need reverse current protection so voltage do not go into the input side if output side voltages are present due to some circuit. Is this voltage comparator function to stop the reverse current in this sense?

2: When reverse voltage condition occur that will be common in my case then i am expecting the device turn OFF. If the device turn OFF then it will auto comes in normal operation when input voltage will be greater than output voltages? I need auto feature to do it.

3: The load current will no more than 200mA. I have to charge the 100mA battery that required 90mA current and other circuitry 100mA for safety. What should be the ILIM resistor value i should use?

4: I don't have control circuitry to control EN or FAULT pins. It's like USB power circuit. Should i tie them to GND/VDD?

    Thanks

  • Hi Ali,

1, Yes, the reverse voltage comparator can stop the reverse current, but need to have a 4ms typ deglitch time, so for your application, please make sure meet the VOUT > Vin by 135mV for 4ms.

2, You can use the below diagram to achieve that.

3, Please consider the below table, I guess you can choose the 88.7kohm +-1%.

4, Please refer to the 2nd point, connect the EN and the /Fault pin together, to achieve the auto-retry functionality.

    Best Regards,

    Kuno
