BQ79616-Q1: BQ76PL455A-Q1: Most recommended BMS IC

Part Number: BQ79616-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ76PL455A-Q1, , BQ79616, BQ79656-Q1

Hello,

This is a follow-up to the thread entitled "BQ76PL455A-Q1: Most recommended BMS IC."  I have the same question but for #4 change to "4. Allows for active cell balancing."  Which IC would you recommend?

https://e2e.ti.com/support/power-management-group/power-management/f/power-management-forum/985731/bq76pl455a-q1-most-recommended-bms-ic?tisearch=e2e-sitesearch&keymatch=BQ76pl455a-q1%2525252525253A%25252525252520Most#

Thank you.

  • Hi Ray,

At this moment, we do not have an IC that supports active cell balancing. For our most accurate already-released device (battery monitor), please look into the BQ79616-Q1.

  • OK.  Thank you.  I've been looking at the BQ79616.  What is the difference between the BQ79616-Q1 and the BQ79616?  They each have there own datasheet but use the same EVAL board.

  • Please add:  How would you recommend to measure battery stack current with the BQ79616?  Same question for BQ79616-Q1 (if different).

  • Hi Ray,

What is the difference between the BQ79616-Q1 and the BQ79616?

Functionally, there shouldn't be any significant differences- they're similar. The Q1 device has higher functional safety coverage than the non-Q1 device.

How would you recommend to measure battery stack current with the BQ79616?  Same question for BQ79616-Q1 (if different).

The BQ79616(-Q1) does not measure battery current. However, we do offer the BQ79656-Q1 device for a current measurement option. This device supports 6S to 16S battery modules.
