TPS61376: Changing VOUT dynamically - charge dumping

Part Number: TPS61376

Hello team,

My customer is wondering, in the case that VOUT is dynamically changed from high to low (i.e. by switching out a feedback resistor or by using a DAC to adjust the VFB) does the regulator dump energy from the storage cap via low side FET to get to lower voltage set point ASAP or no?

The alternative I imagine would be that the energy from the storage cap is simply dumped through the load

Best,

Austin Allen

  • Hi Austin,

After changing target VOUT from high to low, the converter stops switching and the load(or leakage current if no load) consumes the energy. The low side FET does not work during this time. Once VOUT drops to the new target, the converter starts to switch again.

    Regards,
