TPS65987D: TPS65987 EVM

Part Number: TPS65987D

Hi,

I have a question. Can the PD work as sink and source if the DRP firmware is flashed using binary flash option.

Also, please verify that do I need different firmware for sink and source.

Regards,

Vandit

  • Hi Vandit,

Yes, the PD can work as a sink and source when in DRP mode. If you are doing Sink only or Source only (you do not want to support the other power role) you would need two separate firmware images. If you are fine with DRP, you only need one.

    Thanks and Regards,

    Chris

  • Hi Chris,

    Thanks for the above information.

When using the PD in DRP mode, can we use the default DRP project in the Ti's Application customization tool ? Also, on flashing the binary file into the SPI, i receive a pop up that SPI flash verification failed.

    Regards,

    Vandit

  • Hi Vandit,

Yes, the default DRP project on the 6.1.4 Application Customization tool should work with the TPS65987EVM.

When flashing the EVM follow these steps:

    1. Plug EVM into 20-V power jack
    2. Connect EVM to PC with micro-usb cable
    3. Open GUI and pjt
    4. Select Adapter -> Adapter settings
      1. The window should pop up without any issues and look similar to this
    5. Close adapter settings window, and select Binary -> Flash from current project.
    6. Change USB to SPI adapter to FTDI
    7. Select ok
    8. Wait for it to finish programming, and power cycle the evm to load the new image.

    Hopefully this works.

    Thanks and Regards,

    Chris
