TPS63000: HIgh current consume while no load

Part Number: TPS63000
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TEST2

Hi Team,

My customer found the TPS63000 consume 1x mA with no load.

Please give me some comments about this issue!

Attached are the schematics and layout.

Thanks.

  • Hi  Peter,

    Since PS pin is connected to Vin, device work in FPWM mode. High consumption is make sense even without load.

  • Hi Tao,

    I still have a question about it!

    Even working in FPWM mode, the 15mA is reasonable or not?

    And here are some test results from the customer.

    Test1:

    no Vin, no load, direct provide 5V from TP201(VDD_5V).

    Read current from meter: 0.66mA for 5V input.

    Test2:

    Vin=3V, Vout=VDD_5V, no load.

    read input current from meter: 15.48mA.

    The scope shows the VDD_5V waveform.

    Test3:

    Vin=3V, Vout=VDD_5V, no load.

    Read input current from DC power source =0.16A, Meter show the Vin is 3V.

    The scope shows waveforms of Ch1(VFB) and CH3(VDD_5V)

    Both of them are sine waveform. Is it normal?

    According to those tests, is there any idea about the high current issue for no load?

    Please help to comments.

    Thanks.

  • Hi  Peter,

    15mA input current with no load is reasonable in FPWM mode.

    But the behavior in test3 is unexpected, seems some noise coupled into FB by probe. i am nor sure.
