BQ24072: BQ24072 CE control details

Part Number: BQ24072

In our device, we are disabling and enabling the CE pin for our requirements using firmware even if the device is connected to a USB power supply.
1. What will happen to control the CE pin by software event controlled by hardware?
2. We face an issue by applying this. The IC was not working properly. CE is still enabled after removing the power supply.
Please share your opinion.

  • Hello Jagan,

Thanks for reaching out, just a couple of questions to help understand your issue.

What is the frequency of disabling and enabling the CE pin?

What is your test procedure? Are you using a battery in your testing?

The CE pin is an input, when you say still enabled so you mean there is still voltage on OUT or the CE pin is not being pulled to ground?

Do you have any scope plots, or measurements?

  • What is the frequency of disabling and enabling the CE pin?

approximately 900 time per day we are enabling and disabling the CE pin.

What is your test procedure? Are you using a battery in your testing?

Yes we are using the battery in our device and we test it in charging state. When device connected to charger the IC will start supplying the power to device, at the same time it charges a battery, But in our test case we stop charging the battery whenever we want.

Our doubt is, It casus any issue on the working of the IC.

The CE pin is an input, when you say still enabled so you mean there is still voltage on OUT or the CE pin is not being pulled to ground?

When we continuously test, we faced an issue the battery is not charging properly in 1 or 2 testing devices. we check battery it is in good state, We suspected the IC, so we change it and test the device again then the battery is charging well. Why its happen? Please give your suggestion.

Do you have any scope plots, or measurements?

    No

  • Hello Jagan,

Just some questions, what is the purpose of enabling/disabling the device so many times? Cycling the CE pin like this isn't something we have tested.

What do you mean by not charging properly? What is the voltage of the battery when this happens?

Would it be possible to measure the voltages at the ILIM, ISET, and TS pins. The status of PGOOD and CHG when this issue happens.

  •  hello Rafael Camarillo,

Just some questions, what is the purpose of enabling/disabling the device so many times? Cycling the CE pin like this isn't something we have tested.

    - We are using the Temperature sensor in our device, It is the heart of our product. Due to charging the sensor error rate is high, So we enable and disable the CE pin for a periodic interval.

What do you mean by not charging properly? What is the voltage of the battery when this happens?

    - The Voltage of the Battery is 4V. Even when the power is given to IC the Charge state indicator pin is still high.

Would it be possible to measure the voltages at the ILIM, ISET, and TS pins. The status of PGOOD and CHG when this issue happens.

    - Yes, We will check the voltages and update shortly.

  • Hello Rafael Camarillo,

We are looking for your response.

  • Hey Jagan,

    Looking forward to your update.

We would like to know, if enabling and disabling the CE pin multiple times will cause any defeats in the IC or if this is good to go with it. Please let me know your suggestions.
