Hi,
I am using BQ25170DSGR in my design. What will happen if a battery with reverse polarity is connected to this chip out pin? I am not going to use series diode with my battery for reverse polarity protection, because of the voltage drop. So wanted to make sure that if by mistake a reverse polarity battery is connecter to BQ25170DSGR out pin, no hazard is going to happen.
Is there internal protection inside BQ25170DSGR for battery reverse polarity connection? If not, is there a chance of hazard? Or just BQ25170DSGR will get damaged due to exceeding absolute maximum rating of the chip.
Please let me know,
Thanks
Hi
The BQ25170 does not have reverse battery protection. This condition could damage the device.
Problem with a series diode is the voltage drop across diode will throw off the charging profile, voltage of the battery is monitored at OUT with respect to GND.
Can you use a battery with connector that is keyed?
