TPS548A29: Why different output ability with different input condition?

Part Number: TPS548A29

Hi team,

My customer is asking why the output current is different listed in D/S feature portion. Thank you for your help.

  • Vin 4V-16V, Iout up to 15A w/o external bias
  • Vin 3V-16V, Iout up to 12A w/o external bias
  • Vin 2.7V-16V, Iout up to 15A w/o external bias

  • Hello Oliver,

There Is a topic that already discussed this below is the explanation:

"Since the Gate Drive voltage for the TPS548A29 is derived from the input voltage when no external bias voltage is provided, the Rdson of the power FETs increases, reducing the over-current trip threshold and the range of application currents the device can support.  As a result, if an input voltage less than 4V will be supported, the load current should be limited to less than 12A.

That is why, when an external bias of 4.75 - 5.3V is provided to support this gate drive and keep the MOSFETs fully enhanced, the rated load current is equal across the full range of load currents. "
