TPS1663: Cout capacitor for TPS16530

Hi TI Team,

I have attached the reference schematics for TPS16530. Please review and give your valuable feedback.

I have followed the EVM of TPS16530 and implemented the same.

The only change was, the electrolytic capacitor (470uF) at the OUTPUT was removed, due to my layout space constraint issue.

And what value should be used at the output cap, if there is no electrolytic capacitor?

Will it affect the performance of the device?

Hi Mani,

Looks fine overall. I will recommend using SMCJ51A at input. Also output cap will not affect device functionality. We recommend small cap like 0.1uF for decoupling purpose.

Thank you for your quick response.

I'll remove the Electrolytic cap and add the small decoupling cap at the output side.

SMCJ54A was already added at the input.

Hi Mani,

SMCJ51A will be more effective in clamping below device abs max voltage than SMCJ54A as 54A has higher clamping voltage.

Hi Kunal,

Any specific package on 0.1uF capacitor. In EVB I can see the 1206 Package.

But it is hardly on my board, don't have much space to accommodate a 1206 package capacitor.

is it okay to have the 0402 or 0603 package in place of 1206?

Yes you can choose 0402 or 0603.
