UCC5870-Q1: Is there a way to introduce a fault (nFLT) by writing registers so I can test my fault clearing logic

I occasionally get faults from the gate drive that are only clearable by power cycling. I'd like to clear them using writes to the CONTROL2 reg (after writing the CRC_DIS bit in CFG8) but I need a way to reliably introduce a fault so I can test the code that writes the registers to clear the fault. Is there a way I can introduce a fault by writing a register? Or is there a pin I can safely short to ground to introduce a fault condition?

Hi Tom,

You have several options! The simplest is to write one of the _CHK bits in the control registers high. This will introduce the specified fault.

I would recommend Control1 bit5 STP_CHK, which when written high introduces an STP fault. There are several similar bits you can review for different faults.

On a side note, have you looked at our new driver, UCC5880? This is our updated SPI programmable driver and has several new features, including an easier to understand register map, an ADC sampling mode that does not require switching, and an adjustable drive strength!
