LP5813-12WCSPEVM: Unable to control all 4 RGB LEDs in TCM Mode

Part Number: LP5813-12WCSPEVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LP5813

Hi,

We are currently using LP5813-12WCSPEVM eval board to understand its capabilities and use it in one of our products.

We have set it up with our host controller and followed the example mentioned in section 10.2.3.5 pg: 50 in LP5813 datasheet: https://www.ti.com/lit/ds/symlink/lp5813.pdf?ts=1708685027582&ref_url=https%253A%252F%252F

All jumpers are in the default setting as shown in the eval board (Figure 2-2 in https://www.ti.com/lit/ug/snvu868/snvu868.pdf?ts=1706011541076&ref_url=https%253A%252F%252Fwww.ti.com%252Ftool%252FLP5813-12WCSPEVM).

This lights up LEDs D1 and D2 in white but D3 and D4 does not respond.

We tested direct mode by following instructions shown in Figure 2-3 and all LED D5 to D8 switched on.

Is this a problem with the TCM mode or is there a different setting to enable?

Any insight about this matter will be helpful.

Thank you,
Sincerely,
Chamith Koperahewa

  • Hi Chamith,

  • Hi Chamith,

I suspect that the 'Autonomous Control Enable' is set to 'Enabled, Autonomous Mode' for the LEDs that aren't coming on.

Try the 'LED Drive Mode Selection and Configure' panel - select 'Scan Drive Mode with 4 Scans', Scan order OUT0, OUT1, OUT2, OUT3.  Double click on one of the LED sets (LED_A0).

In the LED Config.vi - click the 'State & DC & PWM Configure" tab.  On the left side click on all of the LEDs (except LED0, LED1, LED2, L3E3), and make sure they are all green.  Then set the "LED Enable' to Enabled, 'Manual PWM Setting' to 55, 'Manual DC' Setting' to 55, 'Auto DC Setting' to 00, 'PWM Phase Align Method' to Forward Align, 'Exponential Diming Curve Enable' to Disabled, and 'Autonomous Control Enable' to Disabled, Manual Mode.  This will configure all the LEDs that are green to the same settings.  Then exit the vi.

Select the 'Chip EN and Configure' Tab.  With the 'Chip Enable' enabled, click the 'Update CMD' button.  Then all the LEDs (D1 - 4) should come on.

Now if you can explain how to get the animation engine to turn on, I would be happy...

  • Figured it out.  You need to put something (55 works) in the 'Auto DC Setting' box to get the animation engine to turn on the LEDs.

  • Hi Gerald,
