BQ76952: some question about BQ76952

Part Number: BQ76952

Dear Expert

1.If IC  I2C conmucation time off ,will IC will enter reset statues ,and could the protection like COV/CUV be set or just reset?

2.Why after cell balance ,there is an error of approximately 25mV of cell  ?

  • Hello Gabriel,

The BQ76952 is able to function autonomously, so if protections are configured properly, it can protect the battery. There is also a host watch-dog protection feature to trigger a protection fault if there is no I2C communication for some time. This is described in Section 5.2.16 Host Watchdog Protection of the Technical Reference Manual.

There should be no error after cell balancing. Can you elaborate here? Can you share your schematic?

If you have errors during cell balancing, I'd recommend to read Section 2.5 Voltage Measurement Accuracy During Balance of the Cell Balancing with the BQ769x2 application note.

  • Dear Luis

1.We turn off the cell balance after 1s and still have about 12mV error

Below is our sch ,could u help to check the sch ?

  • Hello Gabriel,

The top resistor should be 20-Ohms for less error. Cell 16 is used to power the cell balancing circuit, again, this is described in Section 2.5 Voltage Measurement Accuracy During Balance of the Cell Balancing with the BQ769x2 application note.

Can they change the resistor to 20-Ohms and test again?

Additionally. I do notice that there are Zeners in the circuit. The Zeners seem to be too small, typically during cell balancing it is possible to see voltages of up-to twice the battery voltage between VC pins. So the Zeners ideally should be at least twice the expected battery voltage, to avoid them unintended turn-ons.

    Best Regards,
