UCC12050: Does not operate according to specifications

Part Number: UCC12050

I am configuring a circuit using UCC12050DVER as shown in the attached document.

As shown below, it seems that the behavior is not in accordance with the specifications.

(1) According to the specifications of UCC12050DVER, if pin 13 (SEL) and pin 14 (VISO) are shorted, 5.0V should be output in theory, but when measured, only 3.38V is output.

(2)According to the specifications of UCC12050DVER, the current flowing to VINP should theoretically be about 50mA when there is no load, but when measured, it was 192mA.

What I would like to ask you is

・Could you please point out if there is anything wrong with the circuit configuration?

・Since it was purchased from a mail order site, there is a possibility that the parts may be defective. Is it possible to determine that there is a failure based on the events ①②③④ in the attached document?

  • Hi,

I compared your circuit to the EVM (UCC12050EVM-022 User's Guide (Rev. D) (ti.com)) quite the same. So it looks the circuit is ok. Can you get an EVM to make a comparison between yours and the EVM?

Also, you can use a new unit to replace the unit on your board to see if the unit on your board is damaged.

But it is better to use an EVM to help your debugging in case your board has something different from your circuit or from the EVM.

  • After comparing EVM and my board, I found the cause.
On my board, capacitor C62 (10μF) and IC2 are far apart,
When the distance was brought closer, 5.0V was output normally.

Thank you for your help in resolving the issue.

However, I made a modification to increase the distance between the output capacitor and IC on the EVM side and confirmed it, but the output did not drop at 5.0V. Considering that the EVM side operates normally even if the distance between the IC and the capacitor is not close, I feel that the peripheral pattern layout may also have an effect. I felt that the recommended patterns on the datasheet were important.
