Hello John,

This is actually a limitation of bqStudio and EV2400. I believe that you would require to have two different EV2400's in order to communicate with both devices at the same time with bqStudio.

Thanks. This is kind of a bummer. Will there be a fix to this limitation?

Anyway, I unplug the I2C and start bqStudio and select Monitor. There are 3 bq76952 choices!! Which one?_0_24, _028 and _036!!! I just chose the _36.  It says to proceed at my own rish which I say OK to and then plug it in but it always selects the BQ34Z100!!  How can I connect to the BQ76952?

Hello John,

From what I understand, no, unfortunately. I attempted myself to make it work at one point a while back, with a single EV2400, but I managed to communicate with a single of the two devices on the I2C lines at a time. 

The _36 is the latest version, so that's the one to choose!

Do you have auto-refresh enable? You'd need to disable it to make sure bqStudio does not try to switch over or conflict.

I actually found the E2E of the time I attempted to get to communicate with both devices using a single EV2400:

See the latest response. Doing the procedure I mentioned there, you could communicate with both devices, but then you'd need to re-connect the USB to the EV2400 every time you want to communicate with the other device in bqStudio.

Hi Luis,

I wasn't aware of the EV2400. There was another USB to I2C module that is obsolete and TI recommended the MKS module which I am using without issues.  So if I get another one (or an EV2400), I can hot wire them to the same I2C bus and turn off auto refresh but wouldn't they both communicat just with the gas gauge?  What is the mechanism to have each connect to the two different devices? I'm just a little confused on how that works before I purchase another dongle.  

Or as one of the folks in the thread, simply cut the SDA line and put a couple of wires to a switch to switch it in and out for development.

I don't think I've heard of that MKS module before! Out of curiosity, which one is that? But I am glad that it has worked with no issues for you!

The gauge and the BQ76952 should have different I2C addresses, so it should be okay. I am not sure if each dongle/EV2400 would communicate to the same device, but if anything I would recommend to simply manually select each device on bqStudio, and then it should not cause any troubles as each device has different addresses, so bqStudio should communicate properly.

If you have any additional BQ769x2 EVM, you should be able to use its on-board EV2400 as well, to test things out!

Thanks for sharing! Very interesting. It seems this may have been used as an alternative for the EV2300 (Pre-cursor to EV2400).

I was actually not aware of its existence haha. But it is good to know it is there.
