BQ76940: charging current

Part Number: BQ76940

HI,

1. During Cell Charging through BQ76940, how Charging Current will be controlled- EIther through Balanced Charger (CC) or 76940IC takes care of CC and then switch to CV mode?

2. in On of the reference design, there is mention of Vplat , I Tap . What are these? are they predefined values or measured from the system?

  • Hi Saptarsihi,

    1. The BQ76940 does not control the charging current or voltage. It will only disable the CHG FET to block any charging current in the event of a fault. The current/voltage would be controlled by a separate charger IC.

    2. It looks like Vplat is the minimum threshold for cell balancing; if any cell voltages are below this threshold, then the device will not enable cell balancing. I Tap looks like it is the threshold for the charge cycle to finish; when the measured charge current is below this threshold, the system determines that the charging cycle has finished.
