BQ24253: How to use the D± pin

    Please see my answers to your questions below. 

    1) Yes it is recommended to isolate the connection of D+/D- lines to either BQ24253 or MSP430 using a multiplexer, etc. Once BC1.2 detection is complete the /PG pin status on the BQ24253 will change. This signal can be used to change the D+/D- connection to the MSP430 for data transfer. 

    2) If D+/D- based detection will not be used I recommend shorting D+/D- pins together. Shorting the pins together will result in DCP detection and then current limit is set by ILIM resistor. 

    Additionally, I wanted to bring your attention to a newer standalone charger option the BQ25616. This part has similar features to the BQ24253 and is years newer and lower cost.
