TPS7H3301-SP: Overshot while powering down

Part Number: TPS7H3301-SP

HI there!

We recently performed an initial test on one of our modules.  The regulator overshot while powering down and we had a termination regulator (5962R1422801VXC) see a worst-case load of -0.433V for a very short period (see below) on the VDDQSNS and VLDOIN pins, compared -0.36V absolute maximum rated values.  Is the event expected to have damaged the component?

  • Hi Kara,

If the question is whether -0.433V should (but didn't noticeably seem to) have caused instant damage, the answer is "it depends".

The ABS Max values don't necessarily indicate that voltages beyond those limits will result in instantly noticeable damage the part. They certainly could, but they could also stress the part in ways that manifest in terms of shortened lifetime or degraded performance over time. Damage is more likely with greater magnitude and greater duration beyond the rated device limits.

    Thanks,

    Sarah
