TPS25750: 5V present at VBUS_IN but no LDO_3V3 output (dead battery mode)

Part Number: TPS25750

Tool/software:

Hi everyone, I'm having an issue with a custom designed board involving the TPS25750. This is a sink-only configuration in which the TPS25750 operates in dead battery mode.

The following is the schematic of the relevant section of the board:

This is based off an FAQ on the forums: How do I create a Sink-Only USB-C PD port to replace a legacy Barrel Jack Connector?

On the board, after attaching a USB-C cable and verifying that 5V is present on the VBUS net and consequentially the VBUS_IN pin, I attempted to verify correct voltages present on LDO_3V3 and LDO_1V1. Unfortunately, both measure at 0V. It's more concerning that LDO_3V3 is not present as in dead battery mode the 3V3 LDO should be drawing from VBUS_IN to provide a 3V3 bus voltage, according to the power path diagrams in the datasheet.

Could anyone provide further guidance as to the appropriate next steps I should take to debug this issue or any issues spotted with my design? Thanks so much!

  • Solved - I mistook this as no connection between VBUS and VBUS_IN. After jumper-ing the 2 nets on the board the chip functions as expected.

Initially I was under the impression that VBUS_IN and VBUS were internally connected, but that seems to be a misconception. Thanks everyone!
