BQ25720: Integration with PD TPS65988 questions

Part Number: BQ25720
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS65988,

Tool/software:

Is the BQ25720 the best part to use with the Dual PD Controller with Alt Mode: TPS65988?

I am using external PFETs like https://www.ti.com/lit/ug/slvub62b/slvub62b.pdf and then connecting their output to the input of BQ25720.

The BQ25720 then connects to a 3S2P configuration 18650 cell battery. The VSys output powers a regulator generating 5V, the system voltage.

  1. Is the BQ25720 inrush snubber necessary in this configuration?
  2. Is it best to deliver 5V-only power to a peripheral using the TPS65988 with its VBUS powered by the regulated 5V and disable OTG on the BQ25720?
  3. To extend the Battery life, can I charge to 80% by adjusting the Charge Voltage Register?
  4. If the battery were to go flat, would the charger default back to 100% until the CPU readjusts this?
  5. Is there a method to set the minimum discharge voltage, so that the unit would stay within 20-80% of the battery?
  6. The battery states that it must be charged by a Smart Battery Charger” (compliant to the [SBCS] level 2 or 3), could the processor handle this in conjunction with the BQ25720?
