When the device is facing a short circuit event, what will happen to the output voltage and PH node?
Could PH node scope plots be shared?

Hey Luis,
How the output voltage and PH node will react will depend a bit on how the short circuit is applied and how strong the short circuit is.
In the case of a 0 ohm output voltage short, the output voltage will fall rapidly and the PH pin will see repeated pulses of the min on time of the device.
Thanks,
Daniel
Hi Daniel,
Thanks for the quick response. In case of having this short to 0ohm, will the PH node show any oscillations? I have seen those in a previous thread and i just want to confirm...
Also will the PH node voltage go to zero volts?
Hey Luis,
The previous thread oscillations didnt have to do with the current limit.
That had to do with the shut off of the device.
Those oscillations happen when either:
1. The inductor is completely discharged
2. Both high side and low side FET are off.
Neither of which should happen during the high side current limit
The PH node voltage will continue to switch during the short.
To be clear, the current limit for this device does not turn the device off.
Thanks,
Daniel
Daniel, thanks for the quick response...
Do you know why the PH node is not going to 0V when the device is disabled (Enable pulled low)?
In the Scope plot the PH node goes to 2.5V when the enable is pulled low...
Thanks,
Luis Baez
Hey Luis,
It will go to 0 V, but initially the situation that I talked about in (2) is happening.
Both FETs are off and the only way the node will discharge is through the inductor.
If you notice the time scale is really small, and it can take some time to discharge
Thanks,
Daniel
