TPS25750: Source Capabilities

Hello TI team,

I am looking for a USB Type-C PD solution. Ideally requiring no host MCU or FW development. My application is 60W or 100W, sourcing power only, no data.

At first I was interested in the TPS25750 for its low 1k price. However, it's not 100% clear to me if this chip actually supports 100W sourcing.

The first page mentions there is a 28V 7A bi-directional power switch. However, later in the datasheet, it seems this switch can only be utilized if paired with a BQ chip?

So my two questions are:

Can I use the TPS25750 for 100W source-only application without a BQ chip?
If not, which IC do you recommend for this application?

The idea would be to use the GPIOs on the TPS25750 to switch in/out resistors in the feedback of a DC/DC to generate the 5V/9V/15V/20V

I did search the forums before making this post, but I see conflicting information.

Thank you for reaching out!

The TPS25750/1 has an internal 5V,3A sourcing path. For sourcing applications >15W, the bidirectional power path may be utilized when paired with an external DCDC. I will get back to you on some product recommendations by Wednesday.

Hello,

I discussed this with Aya, and unfortunately the TPS25751 would not be a good fit here. It is best used for dual role power or sink only applications. We have some devices releasing next year that are better optimized for source only applications such as this.

If you need something now, the TPS65987DDK would be a good device to review
