TPS23730: TPH/TPL

Expert 3981 points
Part Number: TPS23730

Tool/software:

I am going through the datasheet for TP23730 for a class 5 implementation. I understand the CLSA, CLSB functionality sets the current limit. Can you help understand the functionality of TPH/TPL ? It seems like those two pins limit the class to which we can limit the chips operation ?

  • Hi JDJ,

    Thanks for reaching out!

TPH/TPL/BT are open-drain output pins. The different Hi-Z or H/L combinations of these pins indicate the PSE-PD handshake outcomes and adapter (APD) or passive PSE (PPD) connection status.

Normally these pins are work with opto-coupler or digital isolators to communicate with load side MCU to info the MCU the input voltage source conditions. Then the load MCU and manage the power allocation accordingly.

    Best regards,

    Diang
