UCC28951: PSFB charger

Part Number: UCC28951

Tool/software:

Hi TI expert,

I'm designing a PSFB charger and I would like to use burst-mode for light load operation at the beginning and at the end of the charge to maintain a constant voltage.

Is it a good way to use this topology (burst mode as the default mode) ?

Do you know the duration of switching phase and off phase in burst-mode with the UCC ?

  • Hello,

    Your inquiry is under review and I will get back to you shortly.

  • Hello,

    When the voltage amplifier demands a duty cycle that less than what is programed by Rtmin Output A through F will stop switching and it will not start again until the voltage amplifier demands a duty cycle > greater than what what is programed by Rtmin.

    Dmin = tmin*(switching frequency)

    Under no load conditions when the feedback has determined the output voltage is above regulation and at point where you are at Dmin or below the converter will enter burst mode and stop switching.  It will not start again until voltage amplifier demands a duty cycle greater than Dmin.

    The majority of converters will enter burst mode under no load conditions by default. So this should work in your design.
