BQ27441-G1: Similar Alternative part with temperature monitoring

Part Number: BQ27441-G1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ27427, BQ27Z746, BQ27Z558, BQ27426

Tool/software:

Hi All,

Currently trying to add a fuel gauge to a design for accurate battery health monitoring. I have started some dev work using the BQ27441, but I would prefer a part which upports external temperature monitoring using a thermistor, but I would like the development/setup for it to be fairly easy and want to do some evaluation work fairly quickly. Could anyone please recommend a good part for this please?

Many Thanks,

Jon

  • Hello Jon,

I recommend Looking at the BQ27427, BQ27426, BQ27z558, or the BQ27z746. They all have different features, but these are the primary single cell gauges I would look at for this application.

    Regards,

    Robert.

  • Thanks so much for this Robert. I had another query with regards to why we were looking at another fuel gauge. We initially wanted to use the BQ27441, in conjunction with a microcontroller recording the temperature of the cell however when we shutdown our microcontroller or put it into sleep mode, this temperature will no longer be communicated to the chip, so we were thinking of using the internal temperature of the chip during that time (which will be located on the PCB itself slightly away from the cell). We have concerns about the health of the battery not being accurate though during this time especially with cool downs. Could you provide your thoughts on this please? would it be better to just have a fuel guage with integrated external thermistor temperature monitoring?

  • Hello Jonathan,

I would recommend using a gauge with an external thermistor connection, as this will allow the gauge to get a temperature measurement of the cells as opposed to the PCB board. Our gauges use and monitor temperature and use this in the gauging algorithm.

    Regards,

    Robert.
