Tool/software:
I wanted to understand what the requirement for using the BQ76952 chip for a BMS that needs to go through UL1998/991(IEC60730) certification vs using the BQ76952. Can the BQ76952 pass this certification and what features would the BMS need to have enabled to allow it to pass this function safety certification.
What are main differences between the two chips and the reason the BQ79656 is functional safety certified and the BQ76952 is not?
Hello Brian,
You can request for more functional safety related documents regarding our part. This previous forum post, Documents to Proceed with UL2271 Certification, can help explain how to get functional safety documentation for the BQ76952.
This Certification and Standards website can help show all the certifications our products go through and which products have what certification.
The reason why BQ79656 might be certified in that regard is because it is automotive qualified with ASIL-D compliance whereas the BQ76952 is not.
Best Regards,
Alexis
