Tool/software:
Dears,
The customer encountered some problems when using LM1117IMPX-3.3.
3.3V is connected to a 500Ω load, +5V is powered by an external power supply, and the external input current is 80mA. Remove 1117, and the external power supply supplies 3.3V, and the external input current is 7mA.
1. Does this mean that the 1117 ground pin leaks 73mA?
2. Does this mean that the output capacitor only needs 1uF? Will a large capacitor cause the device to work unstable?
Thanks,
Arabella
Hello Arabella,
Thank you for your questions.
1. Are you asking what the ground pin current would be for this device? This is listed as quiescent current in the datasheet:
https://www.ti.com/lit/ug/snoa826/snoa826.pdf
2. The minimum required output capacitor required is 10uF. Increasing the output capacitance past this point will improve stability and transient performance.
Hope this helps!
Best,
Hannah
