It is possible that the higher capacity battery has a slight change in internal impedance so I would recommend using the GPCCHEM tool (https://www.ti.com/tool/GPCCHEM) to see if the new battery matches with the same ChemID as before.

But this fuel gauge doesn’t have chem id generation process, then how should i check for it?

So sorry about that, I mixed up this gauge with another one of our gauges. I would recommend doing the GPCCEDV process again on the new battery.

And as per manual we only need to collect discharge data in six specific conditions, and there's no need to collect data in relax mode or any other modes, right?

Hi Adrian,

We are observing an issue with battery discharge performance at low temperatures (0–5°C). Battery is having 2000 mAH of capacity.

When discharging the battery at 1A, it was fully drained in 93 minutes instead of the expected 120 minutes. Similarly, at a 500mA discharge current, the battery drained in 2 hours and 40 minutes, whereas it should ideally last 4 hours. We also tried with soaking the battery for 2 hours prior to starting the discharge process (as suggested in ti manual) but it did not worked.

Interestingly, the battery performs as expected at room temperature for both discharge rates.

I’ve attached the log files and the battery datasheet for your reference. Could you please review them and share your insights on the possible reasons for this behavior?

When you did the GPCCEDV tool, did you perform the low temp tests at 0 degrees Celsius? Do you still have the data that was submitted to the GPCCEDV tool?

Hi Adrian,

As per the reference manual, the low-temperature range is specified as 0–5°C. Accordingly, we conducted the low-temperature discharge tests within this range. 

I haven't submitted data to GPCCEDV tool yet as i am collecting last discharge data at high temperature. After i have all 6 data, will do that.

The logs from the tests are being attached here again for your reference.

The data looks good so far. Yes, lets get all the data and submit it to the tool. The tool will give back a report file and other files that can be programmed onto the gauge.

Thanks to your assistance, we successfully generated a report that passed all logs, allowing us to proceed with testing. However, during the discharge process, we observed a sudden drop from 17% to 0%.

I’ve attached the discharge log, GPC report, data memory file, and battery datasheet for your analysis.

Could you please review these and share your feedback at your earliest convenience to resolve this issue?
