TPS23861: Design of PoE Injector

Part Number: TPS23861
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS23731, TPS23881, TPS23881B

Tool/software:

Hi,

I want to design a PoE injector with wattage up to 60 watt range. I am sharing some of the link for reference to understand the requirement.

https://planetechusa.com/product/poe-163-ieee-802-3at-gigabit-high-poe-injector-30w-mid-span-integrated/

https://www.globtek.com/ds/poe-active-power-injector/desktop-external/BGVOO6Rjzvq/TpahHQehEQg/gt-96300-3656-t3-ap.html

I see some of parts  of PoE controllers from TI, see the below part list. Do you have any solution of PoE injector/ reference design which can I use it to develop new PoE injector?

TPS23861PWR 2-pair, type-2, 4-channel PoE PSE with autonomous mode
TPS23861 IEEE 802.3at Quad Port Power-over-Ethernet PSE Controller
TPS23861PW
TPS23731RMTR IEEE 802.3bt type 3 class 1-4 PoE PD with no-opto flyback DC-DC controller
TPS23731 IEEE 802.3bt Type 3 Class 1-4 PoE PD with No-Opto Flyback DC-DC
Controller
TPS2378DDAR IEEE 802.3at PoE High-Power PD interface with AUX Control
TPS23753APWR IEEE 802.3-2005 PoE interface and Isolated Converter controller with Enhanced ESD Ride-Through

Your Quick response in this regards will be highly appreciable.

Kapil

  • Hi Kapil,

    Thanks for reaching out!

For 60W range you may need to use Type-3 or -4 BT standard PSE. Currently only TPS23881 or TPS23881B1 can do standard design for this power range. 2-pairs port needs 1 channel and is up to 30W each port. 4-pairs port needs 2 channels and is up to 90W each port.

    TPS23881B: with/without host control, 8 channels can support 8 x 2-paris ports or 4 x 4-paris ports or 2-pairs/4-pairs mixed

    TPS23881: with host control, 8 channels can support 8 x 2-paris ports or 4 x 4-paris ports or 2-pairs/4-pairs mixed

    Best regards,

    Diang

  • Hi Diang,

I am a bit new to this section. I would appreciate it if you could provide me with the link, document, or application note for the PoE injector design, where I can view the architecture, schematic, and list of components used in the design of the PoE (AC-DC converter, Controller, RJ45, PHY , protection circuit etc.).

Your quick response in this regard would be highly appreciated.

  • Hi Kapil,

    Thanks for your reply.

You can check the PSE daughter card schematic via https://www.ti.com/tool/TPS23881EVM-008

And PSE mother board schematic via https://www.ti.com/tool/BOOST-PSEMTHR-007

Schematics are in EVM User's guides.

I will forward you the Altium PCB schematics in email and hope they can help.

    Best regards,

    Diang
