TPS61376: What's the boundary between light load, moderate load and heavy load for this boost converter?

Tool/software:

Hi, I'm aware that TPS61376 in PWM mode for moderate and heavy load, light load in PFM mode. What's the specific value range for different load conditions?

My design is:

Vin: 3-10V

Vout: 12V

Nominal load: around 300mA

Light load: 50mA

In my case, will these two conditions all work on PFM mode? Dose 300mA count as moderate or heavy load?

Hi Maiyue,

Here are the rough calculations of Iout thresholds of PFM/PWM for your reference, provided that the used inductor is 4.7μH.

Vin = 3V, Iout threshold = 45mA
Vin = 5V, Iout threshold = 100mA
Vin = 7V, Iout threshold = 150mA
Vin = 10V, Iout threshold = 180mA

Hi Maiyue,

You may try the following calculation tool.

Put the basic information such as Vin, Vout, L, f and efficiency(85% or 90% for estimation).

And then fill in the "Actual Iout" from small to big values. If the "Max peak IL" equals (or a little bigger than) the "Current ripple", then the device works in CCM(PWM) mode.
