LM2596: Where is the correct location of RθJC(top) to calculate Tj?

I have two questions about LM2596T-ADJ/NOP.

1. When using without heat sink, can we use the value of RθJC(top) “2°C/W” for the calculation of Tj?

2. Does RθJC(top) refer to the position shown in the figure below?

3. Should the case temperature be measured at point A or point B?

    1) Please use Rtheta-JA for the vertically mounted package without a heatsink.

    2) Rtheta-JC represents the B-side in the diagram posted above when it is mounted to a heat sink.

    3) Measure the case temperature on the top side of the device.
