LM5118: LOAD TRANSIENT ISSUE IN DC-DC CONVERTER IF I ENTER 7A LOAD FROM NO LOAD AT 12 VOLTS OUTPUT

Part Number: LM5118

Tool/software:

Hi sir,

I am testing application using LM5118.

I am using 5milli ohms current sense. the input is 24V and output is 12 volts .

now The full load current is 10A. But till 6A its working fine but as soon as I enter 7A load from No Load. Its going to some kind of protection that the output goes to zero and recovers after 160milli seconds with full load.

cramp is 470pF, CSS = 100nF . L OUT IS 5.6A. OUTPUT CAPACITOR IS 220uF.

IT WILL BE HUGE HELP IF THIS ISSUE IS SOLVED THANKS.

  • Hi,

Thanks for reaching out via e2e. Can you please share the schematic and a scope shot of the signal?

The very first thing that I can think of is the current limit feature of the device (section 7.3.5 of the datasheet). See picture below.

Also, make sure that the equations here below (section 7.3.4 of the datasheet) are satisfied.

Looking forward to receiving the schematic to further help you out.

    Kind regards,

    Federico

    • SORRY I COULDNT SHARE SCHEMATIC BUT I CAN GIVE YOU VALUES AS PER APPLICATION CIRCUIT REFERENCE
    • cramp is 470 Pf more than suggested 220pF
  • Hi,

Unfortunately, I can't see what you attached in your previous message. I think the link you shared is pointing to a local file on your drive.

Can you share somehow all the parameters involved in the application?

    Kind regards,

    Federico
