LM5118: How to calculate the maximum output current

Part Number: LM5118
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM5177

Tool/software:

Dear TI Engineer,

Our requirement is to achieve the input of 9V to 55V, output of 24V/6A and 24V/12A. We have noticed that LM5118 is a buck-boost controller product, but on the WEBENCH Designer Tool, the maximum current supported by LM5118 is only 10A.

So we want to know if LM5118 can meet our requirements and how to calculate its maximum output current. Can you give us some suggestion?

Thanks,

Kind Regards

  • Hi Lumina,

thank you for using the E2E forum.

For a asynchronous BuckBoost the looses in the Rectifier diode are the most critical. So you need to calculate that and check if you can handle the losses.

For this design this most properly will not be possible and a 4-switch BuckBoost would be required.

See LM5177 - which would fit for your input voltage range.

    Best regards,

     Stefan
